SCG003S 'Stradale'

Performance Design

During the 2017 Geneva Motorshow MAT launched the SCG003S, designed by granstudio. For the 'Stradale' version of the SCG003C race car, we updated the design to fit the different drivetrain, and integrated detailed aerodynamic know how that was developed during the many races that SCG has done. The close resemblance of the Stradale to the Race version reveals again the true essence of the SCG003 project: a race car that was designed from the outset to be used on the road too.

The styling is an intense synergy between aesthetics and function, between design and engineering, and was only possible due to the very close collaboration with the engineering team. While the overall design is dramatic and involving, at the same time it is essential an minimal: there are no lines or design features that are not closely related to the function and aerodynamic performance of the car. The exposed hinges for example allowed to make the cabin more compact and aerodynamically more efficient, while the volumes of the car are schrink wrapped around it's essentials: wheel, engine and occupants. More than being a styling exercise that is in search for immediate impact, it is a project that reveals the beauty that lies within true performance.

The interior design is a natural evolution of the race car interior. All the ergonomics and the screen layout have been tested extensively by the race pilots. To this layout we added a essential volumes and bespoke upholstery that add comfort and protection, while keeping intact the sense of lightness and essence that is typical for the race-bred car.
