Senova OffSpace D70
The OffSpace D70, the second concept car in the OffSpace Concept Series, has been presented at the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show. Designed in close collaboration with BAIC Motors Design Centre, the premium sedan concept anticipates the new Senova sedan design language that will hit the Chinese market in the near future.
This design language is strongly connected to China’s capital Beijing, the ‘City of the North’, and home of BAIC. Here both traditional and innovative values unite. It is this unique combination that is echoed in the design. The classic beauty of ‘golden ratio’ proportions is combined with advanced and technological design elements into a design that is both reassuring and exciting.
On the interior, traditional and precious materials like wood and leather are combined with the use of innovative materials and material treatments: an elegant answer to the desire for luxury and technology in the Chinese market.
The exterior is clear and simple at first sight, but is characterised by a lot of sophistication in its detailing and execution. The double wing design emerging from the front logo stretches all the way into the headlamp, a movement that is further underlined by the innovative DRL design that connects the logo with the lamps. The chrome parts around the air intakes in the lower part of the bumper underline the dynamic character and help to maximise the frontal size impression of the vehicle, guaranteeing a confident and imposing expression on the road. The strong road presence of the vehicle is also underlined by a powerful ‘shoulder line’ that connects the front and the back without interruption. This element is complemented with smaller styling features that give the car a unique character. The rear of the car is designed with a volume that gives a sense of stability. Just like in the front, the corners of the vehicle are clearly marked with edges, emphasising the full width of the car but also adding to the aerodynamics.
In the interior, the premium feeling is further enhanced, with a combination of sculptural shapes and high-tech features. The touchscreens in the car seem to be floating and light, while the volumes of the IP and tunnel are solid and reassuring. Just like in the exterior, there is a combination of elements that manages to create a balance between dynamics and solidity, between a natural feeling of luxury and an advanced feeling of technology.
