Solar Family Car Eindhoven University

World Solar Challenge 2015

Granstudio supported the team of the Technical University Eindhoven in the development of their Stella Lux Solar Family Car. The car participated at the 2015 World Solar Challenge 2015 and won in the Cruiser Category.

The car was judged not only on speed but also on practicality, the need of external energy and the number of transported persons. These criteria make this class more than just a race. Speed, comfort, practicality and realizability are key words. The goal of Solar Team Eindhoven is to create the car of the future.

Stella Lux is so efficient that she generates more energy than she consumes during the entire year, even in Dutch weather conditions! The aerodynamic design has an important role in this: consider, for example, the tunnel which runs through the center of the car. Furthermore, Stella Lux has an extended roof on both sides of the car. Because of this, we were able to place another row of solar panels on the car. Stella Lux was designed to be extremely light by using materials like carbon fibre and aluminium.

Stella Lux is an intelligent car. For example, it contains a innovative energy management system: the Solar Navigator. By collecting the current weather data Solar Navigator gives suggestions for the optimal route. Furthermore Stella Lux is synchronized with your smartphone, because of this Stella Lux is up to date about your appointments during the day. You won’t have to fill in your destination anymore and Stella Lux knows exactly how much energy can be charged to your household. You will never have to think about the energy distribution again and you’re able to drive carefree.

Solar Team Eindhoven is a team consisting of 21 top students of different faculties from the Technical University of Eindhoven. These students put a hold on their studies for one and a half year to, each from their own field of expertise, contribute to developing a new solar-powered car.
