Designing a mixed-reality experience for Lynk & Co’s Cool Family concept car

The Cool Family project is set to stretch today’s perception of a car and aims to be an extension of the owner’s identity, a companion that is functional to the desired lifestyle of those who use it. The vehicle’s interior therefore plays a central role, directly influencing the design of the exterior: the car is designed from the inside out.​

Granstudio supported Lynk & Co in both the design and the user experience of this concept car. 9 Concepts were developed and explored on DigiPHY and quickly narrowed down to a choice of 2 concept directions, resulting in a final ‘Big Shebang!’ gamification experience.


Elevate the UX Driven Design Process

Placing the user at the core has been the key element of the approach refined by Granstudio, with DigiPHY playing a pivotal role as a true enabler of this process.

“The management got emotionally involved by the gamification of the experience: in the interactive VR model the vehicle drives towards you, the doors open with a touch on the virtual door panel as the music from the car’s speakers becomes louder, and as you enter the car you can feel the steering wheel in your hands and see it in VR in real time to complete the experience.”

Dynamic Role Play on DigiPHY

DigiPHY's adaptive platform facilitated seamless transitions between layouts in real-time, enabling immediate feedback collection and fostering a collaborating environment. Simon Lamarre, head of the Prospective Design Team at Lynk & Co recalls that

“the teams got into a creative multi-disciplinary collaboration flow for the next hours”.

Creative Workshops to Explore the 9 Concepts

A series of creative design workshops on DigiPHY allowed to explore the overall user experience and interaction with the vehicle.

The teams were able to quickly jump back and forth between seating positions and layouts of the different concepts, automatically reconfiguring to the desired package, overlaying the virtual and physical realities into a single immersive environment
