Crafting an immersive HMI experience for Kaiyi Motors.
Granstudio collaborated with Kaiyi Motors to design an HMI that caters to the needs & preferences of young Chinese drivers, From the design process to the final result, the project is entirely based on mixed-reality technology, allowing us to experience the HMI continuously throughout all design phases.
The challenge
Kaiyi aimed to establish itself as a leading sporty brand for young Chinese users, which required a strong brand DNA. HMI played a crucial role in building this foundation.
To achieve this, we combined our expertise in sports car design with deep market research to understand the desires of the target market. In addition, we took charge of the UX brand definition, UI infotainment design, Mixed Reality (MR) development, and 3D visualization.
Practical Meets Pleasure
Our studies revealed that young individuals yearn for a car interior that merges the thrill of sports cars with the immersive world of gaming.
As a result, designers created the HMI including a dashboard cluster for monitoring vehicle information and a central screen for navigation and entertainment. Users can also customize the tunnel with different modules to enhance their experience.
Driving Beyond The Cluster
To increase the perception of space around the car, we developed a physical-digital hybrid experience.
We placed a physical car avatar on the cluster and added 3D graphics to give a more immersive feeling. The integration of physical elements with digital surroundings allowed us to create an enhanced perception of space, giving users an unforgettable driving experience.
Next-Gen Central Display
The advanced design of the central display is capable of expressing the desires of a younger generation of drivers.
This group of people puts a lot of value on entertainment, digital socialization and relaxation.
“We take pride in our structured lean process and the integration of digital tools to help design and develop the vehicle’s HMI through real experiences”
— LUKASZ CZEKANOWSKI, CHIEF INTERACTION DESIGNER.
Central Screen Features
The idea behind the central screen is to create an environment that is both comfortable and inviting, making the car feel more like a ‘home away from home’.
The whole interface is designed to allow drivers to access various features, ranging from navigation and music streaming to live webcam streaming and meditation.
